Michael Alen-Buckley

Philip Richards, Alen-Buckley founded RAB Capital in 1999, RAB standing for Richards Alen-Buckley. Five years later the company became the first hedge fund to be listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) with funds under management of over a billion dollars at the time. Assets under management subsequently rose to over $7.5billion.
Today, Michael's vision for RAB Capital is a focus on investments in a range of sectors including natural resources, renewables, life science, early-stage technologies and real estate developments.
Michael sits on the Board of a range of these investments including ETA Green Power, Gordian Pharma, Solvotrin, Superdielectrics, Hibernia Star, Trasna and is also the Chairman of fund manager Zennor Capital Holdings.
Michael began his career at Spicer & Peglar (Chartered Accountants) and then moved into stockbroking with Wood Mackenzie. He went on to hold senior posts at James Capel, Smith New Court and Merrill Lynch and was appointed Head of International Equity Sales at ABN Amro Hoare Govett before leaving to set up RAB Capital.
Michael was a Founding Member of the Hedge Fund Standards Board (now known as the Standards Board for Alternative Investments), a non-profit organization set up by leading alternative investment managers to develop and improve industry practices.
Michael is a supporter of the Arts and serves as Chairman of the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, held annually in the grounds of Lismore Castle in County Waterford. He is Patron of Irish Heritage, a charity that promotes Irish musicians and composers in the UK. Michael is also a supporter of the Almeida Theatre and Donmar Warehouse as well as Garsington and Glyndebourne opera festivals.
